Abdullah Alamer is an Associate Professor at King Faisal University, Saudi Arabia. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, Australia, and MA from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia.
He is a vesting scholar to Stanford University, USA in 2026-2027. Abdullah’s primary research interest lies in the psychology of language learning, with structural equation modeling (SEM) being the dominant method in his work. He is the developer of the educational theory, referred to as Autonomous Single Language Interest (ASLI; Alamer, 2022) and the book Particular interest is in self-determination theory and how it informs better learning practices, with particular focus on the role of autonomous motivation as key in leading to engagement, achievement, and well-being. Another interest is in refuting the claim that language anxiety shapes success in language learning by explaining that anxiety is largely a reflection of the current state of learning.
With regard to SEM, he published a book with Routledge in 2026, referred to as "APPLIED STRUCTURAL EQUATION MODELING: A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO L2 QUESTIONNAIRE VALIDATION". In SEM, co-authored research papers with leading statisticians such as Joe Hair, Herb Marsh, Alex Morin, and Jörg Henseler.

2024: Ranked among the top 2% researchers in Applied Linguistics according to Stanford/Elsevier ranking.
2025: Ranked among the top 2% researchers in Applied Linguistics according to Stanford/Elsevier ranking. Also, it is the highest Saudi ranking in this subfield in 2025.
